Single- versus Double-Species Cover Crop Effects on Soil Health and Yield in Mississippi Soybean Fields

چکیده
Conservation management practices can improve soil health while minimizing deleterious effects of agriculture on the environment. However, adoption these practices, particularly cover crops, is not widespread, as they often reduce crop yields compared to traditional practices. The purpose current study was determine if a two-species treatment rye (Secale cereale L.) and crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum could increase parameters maximize soybean (Glycine max yield greater than only in tilled no-till Mississippi field soils. Enhanced microbial biomass organic matter input from crops increased activities β-glucosidase, cellobiohydrolase, fluorescein diacetate hydrolysis, N-acetylglucosaminidase, phosphatase surface Rye plus tended elicit higher plots. Both treatments inhibited plots by 11–25%. These results indicate that tillage exacerbates inhibition double-species were more consistent increasing linked nutrient cycling. Further examining different combinations systems necessary gain better understanding how be implemented enhance maximizing yield.

Background: The application of biochar as a soil amendment has achieved popularity and has been found to improve considerably soil nutrient status and plant productivity in low fertile soils. Methods: This study used two different methods to apply sewage sludge and sewage sludge biochar with three replicates in a completely randomized block design. The experiment included (1) control, (2) mulc...
متن کاملEffects of Winter Cover Crops Residue Returning on Soil Enzyme Activities and Soil Microbial Community in Double-Cropping Rice Fields
Residue management in cropping systems is useful to improve soil quality. However, the studies on the effects of residue management on the enzyme activities and microbial community of soils in South China are few. Therefore, the effects of incorporating winter cover crop residue with a double-cropping rice (Oryza sativa L.) system on soil enzyme activities and microbial community in Southern Ch...
متن کاملTree Species-soil Relationships on Marginal Soybean Lands in the Mississippi Delta’
In the Mississippi Alluvial Plain, marginal soybean lands are those lands that are frequently flooded and have relatively low average soybean yields. These marginal farmlands might be regenerated to bottomland hardwood species if species-site relationships and silvicultural systems were better developed. Cost effective esteblishment.and management of these stands will require an understanding o...
